We all know that literacy is an increasingly important priority in school. The Denver Art Museum is a unique space for students to practice language arts skills, including oral language, descriptive writing, and analysis. Art has the power to expand students’ experience while giving them topics that they can connect to. Looking closely at works of art helps students develop strong observation skills and richer descriptive writing. Discussing what they see helps students hone critical thinking skills and analytical skills. In March, the DAM is launching a brand new language arts-based fieldtrip for elementary students. This workshop will introduce teachers to the new fieldtrip’s methodology and provide relevant practical activities they can use in their classrooms. Graduate credit is available.
